Citra MMJ Not Showing Games

Citra MMJ Not Showing Games

If Citra MMJ is not showing games in its library, then there could be multiple reasons behind this issue. One of the most common reasons is not giving storage permission to the emulator. Other reasons could be unsupported game files, a corrupted ROM, or an incorrect game directory.

Sometimes, the emulator can’t find the SD card path, so it can’t show your games. Issues related to SD cards have been discussed in the Citra MMJ Not Recognizing SD Card guide.

Here, we will discuss the other troubleshooting methods to fix this issue.

Storage Permission Not Granted

If, while installing this Android emulator, you didn’t grant storage permission, then it won’t be able to read the game folders and, ultimately, will not show your games in its library.

Fix

  • Click on the Settings icon on your phone, then scroll down to Apps. On the next screen, tap Citra MMJ. There, turn on the storage permission.

  • After granting the permission, restart Citra MMJ and then try adding the games folder again.
  • If you want to avoid this situation in the future, set the Storage or Files and Media permission to Allow or Allow all the time, instead of granting permission manually every time you install the app.

You Haven’t Added a Game Directory

The general behavior of Citra MMJ is that you have to manually select the games folder. Citra does not automatically scan your device’s storage. So, if you have not added the games directory, it will not show any games in the list.

Fix

  • Open Citra MMJ and click on the folder or “+” icon shown on the main screen.
  • Then go to the folder where your .3ds or .cia game files are stored in your internal storage. Select that folder and confirm your selection.

  • Citra MMJ will now scan the directory and show all the supported games.
  • If you have stored your games in multiple folders, you will have to add each folder separately.

Supported Games

Even after adding the games directory, the games are still not showing, then the reason could be that the files are not in a supported format. Citra MMJ only supports files in the .3ds and .cia formats.

Before adding the games, first check the file extension, if they are compressed then unzip them with a file manager like RAR or ZArchiver.

Encrypted ROM Files

If you have added the games directory and the files are in a supported format, but Citra MMJ is still not showing the games, then it is possible that the ROM is encrypted. Citra MMJ does not support encrypted .3ds or .cia files. You have to decrypt the files if they are encrypted; otherwise, the games will not show in the library.

Fix

Decrypt your files using tools like GodMode9, CTRTool, or Batch CIA 3DS Decryptor. It is a good idea to back up your original files before decrypting or converting them.

ROM File Is Corrupted

So, moving to the next step, you have added the correct game, the files are in a supported format, and they are decrypted, but the games are still not showing in Citra MMJ. Then it is quite possible that the ROM file is corrupted.

Sometimes, during downloading, transferring, or converting a file, it becomes damaged, and the emulator cannot detect it properly.

Fix

  • Delete the current ROM file and download it again.
  • If you copied the game from your Nintendo 3DS, dump it again.
  • If you converted the file previously, try converting it again. After that, add the games folder to Citra MMJ and check whether the game appears in the library.

Conclusion

If Citra MMJ is not showing games, then check that:

  • You have granted storage permission.
  • You have added the games folder.
  • The game files are in a supported format.
  • The game files are decrypted.
  • The ROM is not corrupted.
